Description
ADAM KEISTER ATTRIBUTED, STRASBURG, SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE SPITTOON, salt-glazed, circular form with rounded shoulder and deep, concave center, cut-out arched drain hole to side, slightly arched cut-off lines to underside. Brushed cobalt horizontal tulip and feathered leaves decoration repeated three times around body. Probably Adam Keister Sr. (1782-1847) and/or his sons Adam Keister Jr (1819-1876) and Henry Keister (1814-1875). 1835-1850. 3 5/8" H, 8" D.
Very good condition without cracks, four chips around edge of base, two flakes to shoulder.
