Chamberlain (Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, Maine, 1838-1914), Union, Brigadier General, Brevet Major General, he is best know for his defense and bloody charge at Confederate troops from Little Round Top, Gettysburg, on July 2, 1863, his achievement recognized by his nickname Lion of the Round Top, and was subsequently awarded the Medal of Honor for those exploits, Chamberlain was present at the Confederate surrender at Appomattox, he served as Governor of Maine, 1866-1869, President of Bowdoin College, 1871-1883, this letter is written to Honorable John B.
