There was a proposed edition of 50, but it was withdrawn by the artist and a new plate was made, entitled "Promenade, No. 2."
Signed in pencil, inscribed "-50."
Image size 6 3/4 x 7 1/4" (17 x 18.4 cm).
Thomas Handforth was an American artist. Born in Tacoma, Washington, he studied art both in the U.S. and Paris, France. He spent some time in China during the 1930s, which heavily influenced his art. During his time in Pecking (now Beijing) he wrote and illustrated a book called "Mei Li", which received the Caldecott Medal in 1939.
