Antique Hungarian princess brooch, 14k pink gold with 237 rose cut diamonds,and 25 natural pearls. Overall length is 4.5 inches and width is 3 inches. Weight is 32.3 dwts. The largest green stone is glass and the two smaller stones are emerald.
This unusual brooch was from an estate in Santa Monica. David Killen Gallery purchased this piece 30 years ago from a local jeweler, who bought it from the family. In 1994 it was shown to the jewelry department at Sothebys. Carol Elkins, who examined it at the time said it was late 19th century, probably from an Eastern European country like Hungary and unusual. She said it was the "type of thing" that would be worn by members of families that were either Royal or associated with royalty, in the small principalities throughout Europe, in countries like Hungary or Czechoslovakia. She questioned whether the green stone was original, but thought the piece was "great" had a "great look" and "tremendous style". She speculated the large green stone was tourmaline.

The large green stone has a gold screw wheel on the back releasing it from the main brooch(see the photos).There are a large number of rose cut diamonds and pearls in the piece. This brooch has approximately 237 rose cut diamonds of various sizes, 25 round (what appear to be) natural pearls, two emeralds and one large green glass stone. One small pearl is missing.
