This rare and unusual Civil War Relic is an authentic wood fragment piece of the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House from Baltimore, MD. The Wood fragment is mounted to a Souvenir card describing the Mudd house and this relic measures about 5/8" x 1/4" while the Card measures about 7" x 5". This Card reads, in full:

"Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House Wood Relic. Dr. Samuel A. Mudd was given St. Catherine, his home and plantation in Charles Co. Maryland, by his father Thomas on the occasion of his marriage and graduation from Baltimore Medical College around 1857. It was here on the morning of Apr. 15, 1865 that Dr. Mudd assisted Abraham Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth by setting his broken leg, facilitating his escape. Dr. Mudd was sentenced to prison for the part he played and was subsequently pardoned by Pres. Andrew Johnson in 1869. He died in 1883. --- The home remained in the family and in 1974 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It opened as a museum in 1983. This piece of lath wood was removed during the restoration and was sold as a souvenir by Dr. Mudd's granddaughter in the 1980s. The small piece of wood on the front of this display was cut from the original larger piece. An image of the original piece is below."...
