The backing is a silkish polished cotton warm brown with plums and leaves print throughout and the 1-1/4" trim is ever-so-slightly gathered silk- “ruching”.Something interesting about the 42-star flag is that it never got to fly, even though it was manufactured to do so. This happened while Congress was recessing. During this time two more territories became states and were admitted to the union ending in the new flag needing to be produced with 46 stars, not 42! collectible!An extremely well-preserved 128 years on earth silk and velvet Crazy Quilt.
