Description
Reputedly by Aaron Chapin, Hartford, 3rd quarter 18th century, mahogany with pine secondary. Two piece with broken arch pediment with floral carved rosettes, period, if not original finials and two doors withmultiple paned doors on top. Interior shelves. Base has slant front with star inlay, fitted interior, bracket feet and and four graduated, dovetailed drawers with string inlay and original pulls. Wear. 83".34"w. 18"d.
Condition
Irregular refinishing, top right door has poorly glued edge repair, missing lock, missing hardware on interior drawers, surface scratches and overall wear, some edge loss. Feet have pieced repairs and some missing glue blocks. Sliding lid over interior well has no finger holds and doesn’t close completely without effort. 29.5” writing height.
