Draft of a News Report Following the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, Fantastic!
1p typed document, measuring 8.625" x 11.25", no place, circa November 22, 1963. A typed news report for an unknown news source, following the death of President Kennedy. Entitled, "The President of the United States Is Dead", the report has numerous handwritten pencil notations and additions made as new reports of the event were coming in. Some typed sections and pencil notes have been crossed out, clearly indicating that peoples' understanding was constantly changing as information came in. For instance, a note reading "now question is when & where Vice Pres. Johnson will be sworn in as President" has been crossed out and a larger note added "V.P. Johnson now Pres Johnson sworn in on the plane." There is also a poignant emendation made regarding the moment Kennedy was shot, describing how Jackie was "holding the President's head in her arms as the car sped away." The condition of Governor Connaly was initially unknown, but a pencil notation has added that the governor "is listed as satisfactory." An insightful look into how news of the horrific event came in and changed throughout the day. Dark toning with small tears at the lower edge. From the collection of Ron Hoskins, assasinologist.
