Description
Painting by Herman E Goodman, titled Environment.
Herman Goodman is the husband of Estelle Goodman, they worked on paintings together. The following is information about Estelle Goodman's paintings, since the paintings of Herman and Estelle Goodman are indistinguishable from each other, as they collaborated on many of the works.
Painting: 19.5"x 23.5"
In a frame: 21.5"x 25.5".

Davids notes: Estelle Goodman(American 20th century), exhibited in the National Arts and Antiques Show held in the 67th Street Armory in Oct of 1970.Attended Barnard College, and was a member of the Artist Craftsman Guild. She had a retrospective show at the Elaine Kaufmann Cultural Center in 1993,New York City. We were able to find one auction record for a bronze sculpture by Estelle Goodman, in 2003 Doyle auctions in NYC, offered Possessed by Love, a 24 inch bronze sculpture by Estelle Goodman from the Estate of James Robinson, which sold for 1,553.00 against an estimate of 600-900(Wed Oct 8th, 2003, lot 115).After her death, most of her painting and sculptures were auctioned by the Benefit Shop, in Mount Kisco NY.As an artist, Goodman is an original. Her strange and haunting sculptures and paintings of lonely people, dancing nuns, flummoxed crowds, apparitions, ghosts and disembodied faces, recall the works of James Ensor, the Belgian artist of the late 19th century, as well as the strange universe works of Louise Nevelson and Miro, as well Giacometti, Lynn Chadwick and George Segal. This work is completely original, showing the love of Herman and Estelle Goodman for applying objects to the surface of the paintings they worked on, and creating a strange universe for the odd creatures they created to inhabit,in this case Martians.
