Description
Group of Five African Carved Wood Masks, 20th c., consisting of a polychromed example, Chokwie, Angola, with braided rope "Hair;" a punched metal mounted overlay example, with a full body ancestor figure; a Hornbill example, Senufo, Ivory Coast, with frog and fish decoration; a painted example with white linear painted decoration; and an ebonized example with unusual headdress, Hornbill- H.- 19 in., W.- 8 3/4 in., D.- 3 3/4 in. (5 Pcs.) Provenance: from the Estate of John C. McNeese, New Orleans, Louisiana.
Condition
Condition consistent with age and use. 20th c. Would benefit from cleaning. Imperfections consistent with normal wear and tear. Loss to finish of ebonized example.
