Wooden slotted beer bottle crate from historic brewery "C.H. Evans & Sons." This rare crate is actually marked "Checona," the non-alcoholic "near-beer" once advertised as the "Soft Drink That Turneth Away Wrath," produced for a limited time during Prohibition in the 1920s. However, this crate contains—remarkably—three unopened bottles of Evans's flagship beer, its renowned IPA!
According to historians, the Evans family was in the commercial brewing business for three generations. The original brewery, built in Hudson, NY in 1786, continued production until Prohibition. Evans also bottled its own beer at one of the country’s earliest bottling facilities (1889) and malted much of their own grain at the Hudson facility. Its award-winning ales were well known in the Northeast and even exported overseas, and its specialty was this “Indian Pale Ale,” noted for its light color and full-bodied flavor.
The dimensions are 12.25 in x 20.5 in x 13.75 in. Condition is as is, with surface wear, faded lettering, discoloration, and surface rust on metal. Beer in bottles may not taste as originally advertised. Please call or email for a detailed condition report.
