Very rare and interesting vintage Smith & Wesson model 270 international line throwing rocket launcher! In 1964 Smith & Wesson was purchased by the Bangor Punta Company. Under their conglomerate of companies they also owned a company that produced tear gas. Bangor Punta decided to form a company called the Smith and Wesson Chemical Company that would produce less than lethal products for law enforcement. An offshoot product resulted in a line throwing rocket launcher for marine markets. While the name rocket launcher is a bit over the top, this tool is basically a line thrower or line gun. The launcher was loaded with a special 12 gauge shotgun shell, the orange rocket was slid onto the barrel and a rope or line was then attached to the rocket. The rocket was then fired over to another ship or shore, then allow for a line to be secured.

The Smith & Wesson rocket launcher was built upon the famous N frame revolver platform. This is the same frame the famed .44 magnum was attached to as well as many others. Suffice to say, there is likely not a finer frame and trigger mechanism for a line throwing gun ever made! Unlike a modern revolver, this gun requires the long barrel to be opened and a 12 gauge shotgun shell loaded. The gun can be fired in single or double action. For aided accuracy, a handle on the barrel is attached. The classic wood handle grip with S&W logo really gives this tool a fine appearance and feel.

The rocket launcher comes with 5 original rockets, all dated to 1981. These rockets are inert and will not launch without the launcher being loaded. Each rocket measures approximately 23 inches long and 2.5 inches in diameter. The gun or launcher itself is 19.5 inches long with the barrel representing 15 inches of that. Only slight surface scratches visible, overall the launcher appears to be in wonderful original condition. WILL ONLY SHIP THIS WITHIN UNITED STATES.
