Description
Cepuk, a sacred cloth wrapper for objects which are tenget (supernaturally charged) such as the corpses of important people, and living people when undergoing tooth filing ceremonies. Cepuk are also used as hip wrappers for people involved in spiritual rituals. Medium: cotton tabby cloth; weft wrap resist (ikat), Indonesia, late 19th-early 20th Century. Provenance: The Roger Hollander Collection. Size: 47'' x 31'', (119 x 79 cm).
