A Pair of Samson Chinese Export Style Armorial Porcelain Covered Vases
Late 19th century
Sold together with a small pair of Samson Chinese export style armorial beaker vases; all four marked to undersides. (4).
H: 11 3/4 in.
PROVENANCE:
The Estate of a Prominent Philadelphia Lady.
Condition
For all: some rubbing, wear, and light scratches to gilt and painted decoration; some fritting to bases and rims. One beaker vase with chip to base; additional repair to one corner at base, filled in and overpainted. The other beaker vase with repair to one corner of base, approx. 1"x ¾", with overpaint now discolored; an occasional chip at base. Adhesive residue at underside and base of two vases, possibly from previously being felted. Each of the covered vases with 1-2 repaired corners at bases. One covered vase with some accretions present, possibly adhesive residue. Two of the covers with overpaint to bases, likely over professional restorations. One of the covers with repair to previously broken-off finial; one of the covers possibly with repaired finial.
