A Group of Three Continental Hand-Painted Fans
19th century
All on mother of pearl sticks and presented in a frame; one signed A. Cottiget, another signed F. Hellanger. (3).
H: 15, W: 28 1/4 in. (largest frame)
PROVENANCE:
Private Collection, Yardley, Pennsylvania.
Condition
Fans not inspected out of frames. All with some discoloration to mother of pearl handles. One with central courtship scene: splits to paper at folds, light paint loss to folds where creased, occasional cracks or small tears to paper; paper and painting faded. One with scenes of cupids: with discoloration to lace, some parts of the lace with rips and small areas of unraveling or lifting from supports; painted scenes on fabric with some disintegration to painted scenes; one of the spokes with break. One with scene of courtship and of violin player, signed F. Hellanger: some light discoloration and wear to lace, the paper support with some small tears and wear at creases and where joined with lace, paper and painting discolored from light exposure, paper with some light areas of foxing. The frames all modern, with some chips, rubbing, and wear; one with the gilt wood decoration becoming detached.
