A Pair of Meissen Figural Candlesticks
1815-1860
Both marked to undersides with blue crossed swords. (2).
H: 13 1/4 in.
PROVENANCE:
Private Collection, Yardley, Pennsylvania.
Condition
To male figural candlestick: two areas of residue, one beneath well for candlestick the other at tree immediately behind dog, discolored and hardened like adhesive. Minor breaks: one leaf on the tree, several leaves in the basket of fruit (the raw ceramic painted green to mask). Small chip to ruffle at sleeve and elbow. Area of fluoresce to fruit in fruit basket, fingers of outstretched hand, and dog's paws, indicate likely areas of professional restoration. Some rubbing to gilt decoration at base and candlestick well; fritting to base. Firing cracks to underside.
To female figural candlestick: areas of professional restoration to fruit in apron and two tree branches. Rubbing to gilt decoration at candlestick well and base. One tree branch at back, beneath woman's skirt is broken off, raw ceramic painted brown. Firing cracks to underside.
