Berlin Airlift 1948 to 1949 Squadron Leader Peter Izard Air Quarter Master No.51 Squadron RAF who help to organise The Berlin Airlift as a result of the blockade in 1948. The Berlin Blockade was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War. During the multinational occupation of post-World War II Germany, the Soviet Union blocked the Western Allies railway, road, and canal access to the sectors of Berlin under Western control. The Berlin Airlift was organised to bring in supplies and lasted from 24 June 1948 to 12 May 1949 when Stalin finally abandoned the blockade. Signed on a 50th Anniversary of the Berlin Air Lift cover 1999, flown in a Douglas Dakota of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Good condition.
