Description
This is an exceedingly rare antique tribal adornment from the Gaddang ethnic group, Northern Luzon, Philippines. Gaddang and Kalinga women will gather the hair from deceased relatives and create long braided hair charms with beaded ends to adorn themselves with. Hair plays an important role in shamanic rituals and is considered dangerous if your hair falls into the hands of an enemy and spells can be cast against you. This hair Charm was collected in the mid 20th century. Provenance: Ex Museum Of Oddities, Indiana.
