This lot consists of an unframed oil painting on stretched canvas, done in the Post-Impressionist style of modern artist Paul Gauguin (French, 1848-1903). Image depicts a woman lying naked in a bed while someone looks on voyeuristically. Hand-painted inscription at lower left corner. Additional hand inscription at top left is illegible to this writer. Unframed dimensions measure approximately 17" x 25.5".

Paul Gauguin (French, 1848-1903) did not enjoy critical success during his lifetime, but is now recognized as a fundamental proponent of Synthetism, a successor of Impressionism. Gauguin spent a decade in French Polynesia, where the native people and surrounding landscape became definitive sources of inspiration. In addition to being a gifted painter, Gauguin was also a ceramicist, writer, sculptor, and printmaker.
