Description
This lot consists of a bronze statuette, executed in the distinctive "Boterismo" style of modern painter Fernando Botero (Colombian, 1932 - ). This unframed piece measures approximately 15.25" (height) x 10" (width) x 6.25" (depth).
Fernando Botero (Colombian, 1932 - ) is a world-renowned sculptor and painter known for his stylization of figures and objects. His body of work ranges from daily life in Colombia to art historical references and social issues, all unified by the defining rotundity of his subjects. This stylization, known as "Boterismo", is often interpreted as a pointed social commentary. An artist is attracted to certain kinds of form without knowing why, says Botero. You adopt a position intuitively; only later do you attempt to rationalize or even justify it.
