Description
This lot consists of an unframed ink illustration on paper, done in the cartoon style of Jean Giraud (French, 1938 - ). Image depicts a man with a flat-brimmed hat and an unshaved face. He looks like a grizzled, time-weary cowboy. Handwritten inscription at lower right as well as an illegible inscription below that. This piece measures approximately 11.75" x 8.25". Reverse side of piece features a stamp.
Jean Giraud (French, 1938 - 2012) was a visual artist who was also known by the pseudonyms "Gir" and "Moebius". Giraud was born in the suburbs of Paris. By the time he was 10 years old, Giraud had begun to draw Western comics. He attended art school, but would eventually drop out and go into military service. Afterward, Giraud delved far into science fiction and gritty realism, creating a style and a following all his own.
