Description
Central Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Bassikassingo peoples, ca. early 20th century CE. A hand-carved standing male ancestral figure known as a "misi." The figure has a stocky, lightly-rounded abdomen with bent arms, a thick neck, and a bulbous head, all supported atop a pair of delineated, wide-set legs. The head is characteristically triangular in form and boasts a pair of slit-form eyes, a slender nose, cupped ears, a rounded chin, and a serrated beard tracing along the jaw line, all beneath a rounded top. Fine patina envelops this lovely example from the Bassikassingo peoples of central Africa! Size: 3.5" W x 14.1" H (8.9 cm x 35.8 cm); 14.25" H (36.2 cm) on included custom stand.
