Label - This black cape was worn during the filming of the 1965 American comedy film, The Great Race, starring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Natalie Wood, inspired by the actual 1908 New York to Paris Race. The film cost $12 million to make, the equivalent to $98.36 million today, making it the most expensive comedy film at the time. The film details the rivalry between two competing daredevils, The Great Leslie (Tony Curtis) and Professor Fate (Jack Lemmon), and an automobile race from New York City to Paris. This cape was worn by the infamous Professor Fate, portrayed by Jack Lemmon, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role in the film.
