Description
Pair of English Sevres Style Porcelain Bottle Coolers. Probably Coalport. The sceaux, or bottle coolers of lobed, ovular form, with applied gilt ribbon handles to sides, the turquoise ground bodies moulded with low relief ribbon tails near handles, and gilt scrolls and foliage above ovular cartouches, painted in polychrome enamels with amorous couples in 18th Century dress, in rural sand grotto settings; the versos with doves above musical and garden trophies. The impressed diamond shaped registry mark that would explain the maker and date has been overglazed, and now reveals overglaze blue interlaced Ls and C marks, over five dots. England, probably Shropshire. Circa 1850. 7 1/4" H. x 10" W. x 8 1/8" D. Provenance: Property from the Estate of Arthur Thomson, San Francisco, CA. {Condition: Very good condition, with minor scratches and rubbing to gilding. Both coolers ring true.}.
