Description
This framed pastel on paper of important size is by listed Chicago Artist Herbert Katzman (1923-2004) and depicts publisher and Grove College professor Eric Potter. An Expressionist artist who worked on paper, and as a painter, Mr. Katzman was known for his atmospheric style portraits and landscapes. A Pollock-Krasner and Guggenheim Award Fellowship recipient, he emerged along with other Expressionist artists in the 1950's in important international shows, and also was a participant in the Venice Biennale. In later life he was represented by Terry Dintenfass Gallery in New York City. This pastel drawing on paper is a portrait of Eric Potter, a publisher in Paris and a professor at Grove City College during the years after the WWll, and shows Mr. Potter sitting in contemplation. This work of important size measures 45" tall X 46" across and is signed in the lower right hand corner and dated 1970. Also included is a large book of onesheets referring to his art career, his obituaries and more.
