Delicate, hand potted and painted teacups with gold and underglaze blue that are part of a set. We have the armorial teapot the cups were used with for generations listed in our shop separately. Small porcelain beaker-shaped demitasse cups with ridged handles that have been painted in underglaze blue and then highlighted with gilt. The handles are applied and are secured to the cup body using applied floral attachments. The front of each cup has a rondel with a floral design. The painting is very fine with minute dots and lines. There is a tiny iron red edge to the top border. The cups have shallow unglazed feet and the bases are glazed. There are no porcelain marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 3” (7.6 cm) wide x 2 ¼” (5.7 cm) diameter x 2 5/8” (6.7 cm) tall. Weighs 14.0 oz (395 g) CONDITION There is possibly one tiny chip on the foot ring of one cup. This might actually simply be a recessed spot that glaze didn’t cover. Otherwise there are no cracks, chips, or breaks. There is wear to the gilding on the handles and rim, but very other little wear to the paintings. There are kiln flaws such as pin holes and black spots but these are few and far between. They look very good. Amazingly painted and potted tiny cups made for the export market. A great addition to a collection or to have a spot of tea.
