Item Details

Description

Native American, Northwest Coast, by master carver Ray Williams (Nootka First Nations artist), ca.1940s CE. An attractive totem pole, hand-carved from fine-grained wood, probably cedar or alder, and depicting totemic figures including an impressive Thunderbird at the top, with separately carved outspread wings attached on the back, all atop a separately carved square cedar base. The style and technique suggest that this piece is consistent with other examples by Ray Williams. Size: 10" W x 10" H (25.4 cm x 25.4 cm); 10.75" H (27.3 cm) on included custom stand.
