Eubie Blake (1887-1983) Pianist, Composer. Blake was one of the most important figures in early-20th-century African-American music, and one whose longevity made him a storehouse of the history of ragtime and early jazz music and culture. 8 ½” x 11” autograph letter signed, personal stationery, November 22, 1979, to Michael J. Gersley. “…I know by now must said to yourself that the Guy but be dead. You were almost right if you think so, I’ve been very ill. I thank you for thinking enough of my work to put me in your collection….” The original envelope, addressed by Blake is included.
