Victoria (1819-1901) British monarch. Queen Victoria served as monarch of Great Britain and Ireland from 1837 until her death in 1901. She became Empress of India in 1877. Victoria's reign saw great cultural expansion; advances in industry, science and communications; and the building of railways and the London Underground. 13 ½” x 9 ¾” vellum document, signed in the upper left, March 17, 1870. The document, with the original white and blue paper seals affixed below, is the appointment of George Douglas as “Quartermaster on the staff of the Army.”
