Description
Two (2) Mayan polychrome pottery items. 1st item: Honduran polychrome ceramic cup or urn with band of stylized bird motifs decorates the upper portion of the body, with a register below containing stylized figural depictions of humans in a possible narrative sequence. 6 1/8" H x 5 7/8" dia. 2nd item: Highland Guatemalan ceramic polychrome tripod charger with repeating suns and stairs motifs along the rim, outlined in black. Stylized serpentine design with a drilled "kill hole", central region of the plate. 2 3/8" H x 13" dia. Both items Pre-Columbian, circa 550-900 AD. Provenance: Estate of Martha Lyman, Dayton, TN. Condition
1st item: Minor wear consistent with age but overall good condition with decorative imagery intact. Spots of paint loss with largest being roughly 1 7/8" long on the rim. Areas of previous restoration, with the largest being 4 1/4" hairline crack visible from the exterior. White accretions to exterior of base. Old sticker label on the base. 2nd item: Minor overall wear to paint consistent with age. Slight accretion of white flecks, dispersed over 5" area within inner band. Hole has roughly 5/8" loss in center.
