Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A set of 2 hand-built and highly burnished pottery female figures, each presenting semi-nude with exposed breasts and tucked legs covered by a skirt. Each woman holds a sizable olla in both hands, wears elbow bangles and a septum ring, and exhibit ovoid eyes, prominent noses, and cupped ears. Red pigment covers the exterior surfaces in layers of color. Size of each (both are relatively similar): 3.125" L x 4.5" W x 5.9" H (7.9 cm x 11.4 cm x 15 cm)
Provenance: private Reinsmoen collection, Clear Lake, Iowa, USA, acquired through descent from Robert Anderson, acquired prior to 2000

Condition
Each figure with light earthen deposits and abrasions, minor fading to pigment, and softening to some finer details, otherwise intact and very good. Nice preservation to figural forms.
