NEW YORK – San Francisco and Eureka, California, residents in the mid-1970s were lucky enough to be approached by a young man calling himself “The Human Instamatic,” who promised portraits for a small fee. This man was Martin Wong, who after collaborating with legendary San Francisco artists and performers like the Cockettes, made his name as a painter in New York. His work was a visual diary of the struggles and triumphs of his community.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Mark Hamill, best known for his movie portrayal of Luke Skywalker, has seen it time and time again: “Star Wars” fans with movie posters and other memorabilia that they believe were signed by him. But the autograph often turns out to be bogus.

MONTIGNAC, France (AFP) – An army of artisans has laid down its paintbrushes, chisels and pigments after three years of painstaking work to create a true-to-life replica of renowned Stone Age cave paintings long hidden away in southwestern France.

PHNOM PENH (AFP) – A French museum has returned the head of a statue of a Hindu god that was taken from a Cambodian temple 130 years ago, the Culture Ministry said Tuesday.
