Art, antiques from Tennessee collections highlight Case auction Jan. 21

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Art and antiques from two prominent Tennessee couples – Dr. and Mrs. Benjamin H. Caldwell and Charles and Ann Wells – are among the highlights of the Winter Case Antiques Auction, to be held Jan. 21 at the company’s gallery in Knoxville. The cataloged auction, packed with nearly 1,000 lots, also includes outsider art being sold by the Arts Center of Cannon County Tenn., mid-20th century international art, a Winchester firearms collection, Asian antiques, estate jewelry and silver. Absentee and Internet live bidding is available through LiveAuctioneers.

Court rules civil suit can proceed against Sopranos star Castelluccio

NEW YORK – A judge in Kings County Supreme Court, New York, has ruled that a civil lawsuit can move forward against Sopranos actor, artist and art collector Federico Castelluccio. The actor’s former publicist, James Sliman, filed a lawsuit against Castelluccio in August, alleging non-payment of $35,000 for 2 1/2 years of publicity services Sliman says he provided in connection with the actor’s 17th-century Guercino painting of St. Sebastian. On Dec. 16, Judge Edgar G. Walker refused a request made by Castelluccio’s attorney for a dismissal of the case.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) – When Jim Cooper bought a nearly century-old phonograph at a neighbor’s yard sale, it began a two-year love affair that has seen him purchase and restore 30 vintage “talking machines.”
