DENVER, Pa. – Many a great toy and bank collection is highlighted by rarities acquired from Morphy’s, which still holds the world record for the highest-grossing one-day toy auction of all time. Many would recall the record-setting event: Morphy’s 2007 sale of the legendary Stephen and Marilyn Steckbeck bank collection, which drew national TV crews to the Pennsylvania gallery and knocked down an astonishing $7.7 million.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Leroy Neiman party scene and an early miniature portrait of a Chickasaw brave were the most celebrated lots at Case Antiques, Inc. Auctions & Appraisals‘ Summer Auction, held July 9-10. A total of 95% of the lots sold, and the sale total tallied 17% above the high estimate.

BERKELEY, Calif. – On Thursday, July 28, PBA Galleries will host Part II of the Jack and Beverly Waltman Collection of Photography and Art with Additions. The nearly 450 lots feature photographers of the legendary Group f/64, including Edward Weston, Imogen Cunningham, Ansel Adams, Peter Stackpole, Brett Weston and Sonya Noskowiak. Also represented are several notable photographers of the next generation, including John Sexton, Morley Baer and Jerry Uelsmann. Complementing the Waltman collection are several exquisite prints and artists’ books, including work by Robert Motherwell, the artists of the Berlin Secession and George Grosz. A poster collection featuring work by David Lance Goines and the Bay Area rock poster artists of the 1960s rounds out the sale. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Museum of Art is currently hosting Medieval Treasures from the Glencairn Museum, a rich display of 18 works of French Romanesque and Gothic art on loan from the museum in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, which is renowned for one of the world’s finest collections of medieval sculpture and stained glass from 12th-century France. Glencairn Museum is currently closed to the public for extensive infrastructure renewal, presenting the opportunity to display highlights from its collection in context in the medieval galleries of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The exhibit will continue through Fall 2023.
