DENVER, Pa. –Morphy Auctions has sold the Dutch flintlock musket that fired the first shot at the 1775 Battle of Bunker Hill for $492,000. Arguably the most significant, positively identified Revolutionary War long arm in existence, the .79-caliber gun was originally the property of Private John Simpson (1748-1825) of Deerfield, New Hampshire, and had remained in his family by direct descent for the past 244 years.

DOWNINGTOWN, Pa.  – The leaves may be falling as autumn hits Pennsylvania, but auction prices across all categories seem to have caught an updraft. Pook & Pook’s the Oct. 3-5 auction – their largest catalog ever – realized $1,977,596. Out of the 1006 lots offered, 981 sold, yielding a 97.5 percent sell-through rate. In-house live, phone and absentee bidders numbered 358, while cyberspace bidding stole the show with 1,931 bidders registered across two platforms. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Urban Culture Auctions (UCA), a division of Palm Beach Modern Auctions, recorded a 100% sell-through rate with its September 26 auction of mid-20th-century “beefcake” photos taken by Bruce Bellas (1909-1974), known professionally as Bruce of Los Angeles. More than 200 lots of vintage prints, negatives, slides, real-photo greeting cards and posing props were offered, with 93% selling during the auction and the remaining 7% after the event.
