NEW YORK – On Wednesday, March 22, starting at 11 am Eastern time, Jasper52 will hold a sale of Contemporary Fine Art and Prints. Absentee and Internet live bidding will be available through LiveAuctioneers.

The March 22 sale is tightly curated, featuring fewer than 70 lots, but all are gems. Choices include Sun and Sea, a vibrant color lithograph by Alexander Calder; lithographs by Willem de Kooning; hand-colored Salvador Dali etchings that picture the astrological signs of Cancer, Leo and Libra; Pride, a 1983 serigraph by Erte that shows a bare-chested woman, her hair festooned with stars, dramatically throwing her head back as she rests her platform shoes on the silhouetted heads of those who she disdains; and a trio of lithograph nudes by Alain Bonnefoit.

Not to be missed are Aquarium and Birds, two winning silkscreens, both from 1960 and both by Edward Arden. Compelling abstracts abound as well. These include Yaacov Agam’s 1980 serigraph DOUBLE METAMORPHOSIS II (Inter Image); S Caldern’s 1970 silkscreen Geometric Orange Blue; the Peter Egan silkscreen Orange Red Abstract from 1970; Cabello’s Blue Orange Abstract, a silkscreen from 1980; a G. Becker 1970 silkscreen dubbed Grey Yellow Black White Abstract; and a 1960 silkscreen by Marc Daffis, simply called Untitled Abstract.

Max Ernst, ‘Fureur, tu me Traites Comme la Tristesse (Fury, You Treat Me Like Sadness),’ estimated at $3,500-$4,000

Max Ernst, ‘Fureur, tu me Traites Comme la Tristesse (Fury, You Treat Me Like Sadness),’ estimated at $3,500-$4,000

The first highlight is a work by the German poet and artist Max Ernst (1891-1976). The title of the 1969 lithograph, Fureur, tu me Traites Comme la Tristesse, translates to Fury, You Treat Me Like Sadness. It seems fitting for the curious and contemplative work on paper, which carries an estimate of $3,500-$4,000.

Also on offer is Big Ben, a 2009 piece by the French street artist known as Mr. Brainwash (aka Thierry Guetta, b. 1966-). Rendered in spray paint and stencil on cream colored archival paper, Big Ben has an estimate of $6,000-$7,000.

Completing the highlights is a group of 14 original engravings made in 1975 by the Austrian artist, architect, stage designer, poet and composer Ernst Fuchs (1930-2015). Dubbed the Kabbalah Gravures (Thirty-Two Paths of Wisdom by Sefer Yetzira, with 36 illustrations by Ernst Fuchs), it is a work of Judaica produced in a limited edition of 297, a Kabbalic number. Its estimate is $8,000-$10,000.
