LLANTRISANT, Wales – On July 4, the Royal Mint unveiled the first coin design in its new Star Wars™ collection globally, as part of a coin reveal event from its visitor attraction, The Royal Mint Experience in Llantrisant, South Wales. Experienced coin designer Ffion Gwillim has brought the brainchild of American moviemaker George Lucas to life on UK coins, working in collaboration with the Walt Disney Company. Combining traditional minting techniques with cutting-edge technology, the Royal Mint’s craftspeople have faithfully reproduced the R2-D2 and C-3PO characters in vivid color for the first time on official UK coins.

LLANTRISANT, Wales – The Royal Mint, the official maker of UK coins, has unveiled a range of commemorative coins to celebrate the upcoming coronation, including a 50-pence and a £5 coin. The commemorative coronation coin range features a crowned effigy of King Charles III designed by artist and sculptor Martin Jennings – the first crowned effigy of the new British monarch to feature on a coin. The effigy of King Charles III for non-commemorative coins was unveiled following his accession late last year and in line with tradition, the king is shown not wearing regalia.

LONDON (AP) – Britain’s Royal Mint has unveiled the first coins to feature the portrait of King Charles III. Britons will begin to see Charles’ image in their change from around December, as 50-pence coins depicting him gradually enter circulation.
