Description

A GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF BUDDHA YONGLE MARK AND PERIOD. Dimensions: 10 x 7 1/2 x 6 1/4 in. Provenance: Robert Edwards (1883-1979) and his wife Gloria (1886-1960). Thence by descent. Robert arrived in Shanghai in 1910, to work for Jardine, Matheson & Co. He married Gloria Byrne in 1917 and it was Gloria who took a special interest in acquiring Chinese antiques. The couple stayed in China until 1938/39 when they returned to the UK. A picture of Edward's residence shows the bronze figure in 1960s. The same collections can be found from Lot 166 through Lot 192. High resolution pictures can be found at https://file.ac/la9438AVYos/
