A RARE LATE 19TH CENTURY QUARTER CHIMING BURR WALNUT HOODED CASE WALL CLOCK the sliding hood with arched moulded pediment surmounted by three gadrooned urn finials above a glazed door flanked by reeded Corinthian columns on a glazed trunk with hinged door carved to the corners with winged cherub head panels on a shaped base, the sides having moulded sound holes amplifying the hollow soundbox behind the veneered backboard; the 9.5" arched brass dial with gilt cherub head spandrels and silvered engraved chapter ring having applied Arabic numerals surrounding a foliate engraved centre, the arch with two subsidiary dials for Chime/Silent and Whittington/Westminster fronting a substantial three train weight driven eight-day movement with deadbeat escapement and Harrison maintaining power chiming the quarters on 8 gongs and the hour on a larger going, brass gridiron pendulum and three pierced brass mounted weights 155.5cm. high
