William A. Washington Printed Engraving by Saint-Mmin
Charles Balthazar Julien Fvret de Saint-Mmin, Engraving of William A. Washington, President George Washington's Nephew, Restrike from the Original Engraved Plate specially made by Tiffany & Co., Choice Crisp Mint.
One of only Twenty Impressions custom made by Tiffany & Co. in 1894 from the Original Plate Engraved by Saint-Mmin, having been authorized and Signed below in pencil by "W. Lanier Washington." This beautiful print measures 2.5" x 2.75" as originally engraved, die sunk at center to a 9" x 12" heavy period wove paper presentation sheet. The original portrait was accomplished in 1806 by Saint-Mmin. A personal Hand-written caption located directly beneath the Engraving is written by and Signed, William Lanier Washington (1865-1933), another descendent of George Washington, reads in full: "Col. Wm. Augustine Washington, Eldest Nephew of Genl. George Washington. One of Twenty Impressions made by Tiffany & Co. in 1894 from the original plate engraved by Saint-Mmin - (Signed) W. Lanier Washington." A wonderful crisp clean and fresh example with excellent eye appeal, hand noted and Signed by an extended family member and direct decedent of President George Washington.
Charles Balthazar Julien Fvret de Saint-Mmin was a portraitist and museum director. He fled France during the revolution, and worked as a portrait engraver in the United States in the early 19th century. He created portraits from life of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and others.
William Lanier Washington (1865-1933) was the Second of Two Descendents of the first U.S. President bearing that name.
William Lanier Washington was the Oldest Child & Son of 4 Children born to Lieut. James Barroll Washington(1839-1900) by his wife Jane Bretney Lanier(1842-1901) widow of Powhatan Bolling Cabell, William was President and General Manager of Pittsburgh Sheet Steel Manufacturing Co. in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania
William Lanier Washington once possessed a Gold Ring that inclosed a lock of hair of General George Washington then and later President George Washington, A Gold Ring set with a circlet of Pearls accompanying this Statement, incloses under the central crystal a lock of General Washington's hair. He States "It came into my possession through my younger Brother, Lewis William Washington (deceased) who acquired it from my Father's younger half Brother, William de Hertburn Washington (deceased) who inherited it from his Mother, Ella More Bassett Washington, the second wife of my Grandfather, Lewis William Washington.
She was a direct descendant of Betty Washington(Mrs. Fielding Lewis) the only Sister of George Washington, and she was also a Great Grand Niece of Martha Washington, the wife of George Washington, This ring was inherited by her through these lines."

Other family members mentioned in his affidavit include his brother Lewis William Washington (1868-1906), his Grandfather William Lewis Washington (1812-1871) sic. Lewis William Washington (1812-1871), his Half Uncle William D'Hertburn Washington (1863-1914) and his Step Grandmother Ella More Bassett Washington(1834-1898). Elizabeth (Betty) Washington (1733-1797), President Washington's only sister, married Fielding Lewis, Sr. (1725-1781) in 1750.
