Two Comic Strips, Original Artwork, 1938 and 1951: "Dick Tracy" and "Dan Dunn"

A group of two intriguing comic strips dating from 1938 and 1951, both centered around true crime detectives. Includes the following:

1. "Dick Tracy" by Chester Gould. September 18, 1951. Measures 17.25" x 5.75" (sight), matted and framed to the overall size of 23.75" x 10". Distributed by The Chicago Tribune. The strip is part of the storyline when Tracy's daughter, Bonnie Braids, was kidnapped by fugitive Crewy Lou. Launched in October 1931, Gould wrote and drew the comic until 1977. He frequently created topical stories relating to family life and organized crime that would ring true with readers, but also introduced soap opera type chapters, such as this kidnapping or Junior's girlfriend being slain by her brother. After Gould's retirement, the strip was taken over by a number of other writers and artists, and it is still in syndication.

2. "Dan Dunn" by Norman Marsh. April 7, 1938. Measures 20.75" x 5.75". Distributed by Publishers Syndicate. A group of shady characters wait in a car to ambush and gun down Dunn…but who set him up? Marsh had already created the character of Dan Dunn in his proto-comic book "Detective Dan: Secret Operative No. 48". The strip came into existence on September 25, 1933 and ran until October 3, 1943 - appearing in nearly 135 newspapers.

Minor edge toning and soiling to both, else very good.
