Two Comic Strips, Original Artwork: "Dotty Dippo" and "Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn"
A group of two comical and child-like comic strips dating as early as 1914 and starring the likes of Tom Sawyer and Dotty Dippo. Includes the following:
1. "Dotty Dippo, Screen Star" by Charles Hughes. Ca. 1914. Measures 20.75" x 5.5" (sight), matted and framed to the overall size of 23.75" x 10". Distributed in Great Britain. Miss Dotty Dippo does to lunch with Mr. Monty Monk. From the creator of the very similar "Hughes Zoo" strip, this comic stars a hippopotamus along with a large cast of other delightful animals. Hughes created a number of popular comics which he published in British papers throughout the 1920s and '30s.
2. "Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn" by Clare Victor Dwiggins, signed "Dwig". n.d. Measures 28.5" x 6.5" (sight), matted 31.5" x 9.5". Distributed by Ledger Syndicate. Tom and Huck Finn are out collecting mushrooms and comically discuss how to tell the difference between them and toadstools. Marked at the upper left corner "G28". "Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn" was Dwig's longest-running comic strip and strongly pulled from Mark Twain's original stories. His best-known comic was a similar strip called "School Days", also known as "The School Days of Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn".
Varying degrees of light and uneven toning, with some minor soiling and foxing. Overall very good.
