Description
**Originally Listed At $600**
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. A hand-built blackware pottery vessel of a rectangular form surmounted by a highly stylized canine creature. The interesting dog presents with its forelegs bent and extended forward while flanking its narrow, triangular head, curved hind legs held tightly against its torso, and an upturned, conical tail. The hollow tail doubles as the mouthpiece for the whistle situated just above the dog's head in front of the strap handle. The highly burnished surfaces imbue the vessel with an attractive luster that shines in bright light. Size: 7" L x 3.375" W x 6.5" H (17.8 cm x 8.6 cm x 16.5 cm)
Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010
