**First Time At Auction**
Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. mid to late 19th century CE. A finely-crafted pestle used primarily for pounding food, meticulously-carved from mottled sage-green stone with light inclusions. The pounder has a wide pounding head with a lightly-rounded surface, a tapering conical body, and an integral discoid pommel with a petite central kick. The smoothness of the handle as well as the pounding face indicates its extensive use. Size: 3" W x 7.125" H (7.6 cm x 18.1 cm).
Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection

Condition
Minor chips to edge of pounding face and handle, with light encrustations, otherwise intact and very good. Nice earthen deposits throughout.
