James Fenimore Cooper Signed Check Slabbed and Graded

1p, measuring 5.75" x 2.125", Cooperstown, dated April 21, 1842. An Ostego County Bank check, No. 712, made out to himself for $10.00. Signed on the front, "J. Fenimore Cooper." With a large "PAID" stamp on the front, overlapping a portion of the signature. The check has been encapsulated and authenticated [Ex-MT6] by PSA/DNA. With flattened folds and light toning. Slightly uneven edges. Boldly signed by Cooper.

James Fenimore Cooper (1789-1851) was an American writer known for his historical romances depicting colonist and Indigenous characters from the 17th to the 19th centuries. As a young man, Cooper served in the U.S. Navy as a midshipman, which greatly influenced many of his novels and other writings. His most famous work, and often regarded as his masterpiece, is the romantic novel "The Last of the Mohicans".
