Description
An address leaf signed by 15th U.S. President James Buchanan (1791-1868) as "Free / James Buchanan" in the upper right, and additionally inscribed by him to "Mrs. Maria T. Ajates / Meadville / Penn.a." below. With a red circular datestamp reading in part "Apr" as well as "Lancaster," Pennsylvania. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded NM-MT 8. Expected weathering and edge darkening, else very good to near fine, the folded leaf measuring 5.625" x 3.125." Refer to the photos for the condition. The slab measures 9.5" x 4.625."
James Buchanan served as president between March 1857 and March 1861. Before that, Buchanan gained political experience in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the U.S. House of Representatives representing Pennsylvania.
