Description
1947 DeSoto. This is one of those "too good not to save" cars Daryl Hemken purchased from a collector in 1979. With just 31,000 original miles on the odometer, the car was destined to be used as a parts car for Hemken's 1948 DeSoto convertible. The roof and windshield were caved in when the former owner's storage garage had a roof collapse, so he let it go at auction. Hemken brought it home, realized how nice the car was and with a repaint it's now ready for the road. The '47 DeSoto's were dead ringers for the '46 models due to material shortages post-WW2, but the 237ci straight six engine and dependable manual three-speed transmission made these solid purchases. This one runs nice and still shows it is well worth saving.
