Description

ENGLISH GUERNSEY CHANNEL ISLAND PEWTER COVERED FLAGON, baluster form body with bands of incised horizontal lines to the neck and lower body, circular-form foot, simple curved handle with hinged construction for a heart-form cover, figural double acorn finials for thumbrest and lifting cover, top of cover stamped "SM" (probably Simon Morrant PS 13016 1746-1778) "LONDON", and "S D B" between two hallmarks with "a posse ad esse" under raging lions. Mid 18th century. 11 1/2" HOA, foot 5 1/2" D.
Provenance: The collection of the late Theodore "Ted" and Alvina Breckel, Oley, PA and Winnetka, IL.

Condition

Very good condition with expected wear, one side of body with a dent, handle with an as-made small pebble-size loss occurring in manufacturing.
