Description

JOHN ROGERS (AMERICAN 1829-1904) PAINTED PLASTER FIGURAL GROUPINGS, 2 PCS, H 24", "THE COUNCIL OF WAR" AND "WOUNDED TO THE REAR - ONE MORE SHOT" "Council Of War" (H 24" x W 17" x D 12"). Depicting Abraham Lincoln looking over a battle map with General Ulysses Grant over his right shoulder and Secretary of War Edwin Stanton over his left shoulder. Signed below Lincoln's right leg. "Patented March 31 1868" in the back of the sculpture. "Wounded to the Rear - One More Shot" (H 24", Dia. 10") depicting a soldier readying a shot with a wounded comrade at his feet. Signed on the kit the soldier is standing on. "Patented Jan 17 1865" on the back of the base.

Condition

Council of war shows chipping to the paint in numerous areas. This piece was repainted at some point. There are also several chips to the base (see photos). One more shot has a chip to the rags infront of the seated figure. Otherwise this sculpture is in good condition.
