Item Details
Description
Native American, Alaska, St. Lawrence Island, Yupik peoples, Thule period, ca. 12th to 17th century CE. A walrus ivory tusk that has been hand carved into a club or as a harpoon foreshaft. The tusk has a thick handle end with two central indentions, and the club head tapers to a slightly flatter tip. If used as a harpoon foreshaft, a slit would have been carved into the tip for receiving a sharpened stone point. The surface is highly polished throughout. Size: 11" L x 2.25" W (27.9 cm x 5.7 cm)

This is an ESA antique exempt piece of ivory and cannot be sold internationally or to anyone residing in the states of California, Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington. We guarantee that the piece is over 100 years old.
